Freedom for Chained Dogs
I wanted to share with the group our creative idea for this year. We combined Chain-Off with a large local Fourth of July Parade here in Ft. Mitchell Kentucky. I wanted a way to reach thousands of people at once, and this worked great! Volunteers all pulled together to decorate a float, we got a huge, 300 lb. doghouse loaned to us which my husband somehow loaded onto the flat-bed all by himself, signs were made, special postcards were made and donated by a wonderful DDB supporter and local realtor. We attached dog treats to the postcards, and handed them out along the parade route. We took turns chaining volunteers to the doghouse . The turnout was so huge we quickly ran out of the 500 postcards, we could have handed out 5000!
With the captive audience, I estimate 10,000 people saw the DDB message in just 2 hours. People cheered us on along the route, and one lady even came up to us and said, "I chain my dog, can you help me?" Next year we plan on doing it again and having more handouts.
Lucky is one if the dogs we brought to the parade, he is still living on a chain, and his caregiver let us bring him to the parade for exposure. We hope a foster home comes up soon for Lucky. Other dogs walked along with us, and the crowd enjoyed seeing dogs in the parade. This was a relatively easy, inexpensive way to get the DDB message out and we had a blast.

DDB "Beast Bash"
DDB set up a booth yesterday at our local dog park where the local shelter and dog part put on a "Beast Bash" for animal lovers to promote local rescues and different groups. We had face painting and a duck pond, but the best part was all the dogs who stopped to take a dip in our pool. Several DDB fosters and adopters also brought their dogs out and it was a great day! Enjoy the pictures.
