The day before Easter, Angel, the sweet senior lab girl that was kept in a pen her whole life, was rescued. According to Tammi Ruppert, Angel's nails were the worst she'd ever seen. The AC Officer who seized her said she was in a rabbit hutch type pen. Angel could barely walk.
She went straight to the groomer and they outfitted her with bunny ears in time for Easter. She won over the hearts of the ladies who cleaned her up. They said she was so grateful and happy for the personal attention she obviously has never recieved before today.

After a hamburger patty it was off to the vet, where she got all checked out and the greatest news is she is HW negative. I thought for sure she would not be. Her wonderful foster Dad Gary, pictured below with Angel, picked her up to go home-- to both a soft bed and other dogs--to get used to being an indoor dog. She will enjoy morning hikes with Gary and his pack, and a warm bed at night and lots of love and attention.
According to her foster dad, Angel is loving having the freedom to walk around and is gaining strength. He takes her and his other dogs on a morning hike/walk, and she is loving that.Happy Endings like this are the best!

UPDATE 4/20/2010: I wanted to update everyone on Angel, the senior yellow lab rescued 3 weeks
ago. Here are some pictures of her at her new foster home. She went into
heat and the original foster home didn't want to deal with that. That is the
least of her worries, as she may have some more serious medical issues. The
vet thinks she could be diabetic, may have bladder cancer, and has a
paralyzed larynx that can cause respiratory distress, especially in hot,
humid weather. So please keep her in your prayers, she is going in tomorrow
for more tests. We will do the right thing for Angel, I just hope it is not
the worst case. She is being spoiled and loved and fed a big steak tonight.
I'll let everyone know what her tests reveal, let's hope for the best. She
deserves some good times after the years of neglect she suffered.

UPDATE 4/24/2010: Well, we found out this week some news about the senior lab we rescued 3 weeks ago who had lived in a rabbit hutch. I named her Angel because she must have had one looking over her all those years.
After further tests, the vet believes she has cancer, possibly of the bladder, but she does not have diabetes as was thought. The good news is this girl has a will to live, and some spunk despite her issues. So, I decided that as long as she wants to be here, we will keep her here, and spoil her rotten for the rest of her days. She loves to take walks, as many as 4 a day, loves to push the soccer ball around the back yard, and gets along great with my 4 dogs plus a foster dog. She is also a good eater, and with a doggie diaper, is loving being in the house.
So please keep Angel in your prayers so she has some good months left. She will stay with us until a foster or permanent home comes up.

UPDATE 5/14/2010: You all remember Angel, the senior yellow lab rescued from the rabbit hutch? Well she has settled right in to the comforts of home. She enjoys playing with balls, sleeping on a soft bed, and getting affection from everyone, including my 3 year old Tyler.
She will be staying with us for as long as she is here, or until a home opens up, just don't tell my husband...haha. Her physical problems are not too bad, she still coughs a lot and has the occasional accident, but she is a joy, and it is great to be able to give her a good life.

UPDATE 7/4/2010: I wanted to give an update on Angel, the senior yellow lab rescued after spending her life in a rabbit hutch type pen. She is enjoying life as a free dog. She spends her days lounging in air-conditioned comfort, her nights on a soft, cushy bed, and loves all the attention, treats, and affection she receives every day. When the nights cool down, she loves a walk around the neighborhood. She will probably be fostered by me for the rest of her days, and I am so grateful to be able to give her the life she deserves. Except for not being able to put any weight on her, she is doing very well.
