Tammy Sneath Grimes lived chained to a doghouse for 33 hours over the 4th of July weekend in both 2004 & 2005 in State College, Pennsylvania as part of the Dogs Deserve Better Chain Off event.

In 2005, 4 others chained themselves in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Virginia: Monica Kinley-Kuhn, Sam Hogenaur, Dan Paden, and Amandah Povilitis

This Year, We Are Pushing the Envelope Even Further With Our Contest!

Dogs Deserve Better, 2003 First Prize ASPCA Pet Protector Award Winner, is searching for a Naming Rights Sponsor (Corporate or Individual) for its Chain Off 2006 Contest—Breaking the Chain—to be held in/near Altoona, PA or YOUR LOCAL AREA beginning July 1, 2006 and continuing as long as two weeks. We believe we will garner at least 15-25 pieces of national media exposure from this event, in addition to 25-50 pieces of local media exposure, which we estimate will bring you a bare minimum of $46,300 dollars in free advertising value in exchange. AND, your donation is tax deductible, saving you even more money!

Dogs Deserve Better works to bring dogs off chains and into the home and family, thereby saving the lives of both dogs and children. From October 2003 through today, at least 75 children nationwide were killed/seriously injured by chained dogs. Chained dogs, unsocialized with humans, can and do attack and kill small children who wander into their territory, a very large reason this practice must end. (See mothersagainstdogchaining.org for more details. Below are just a few photos of children who've been seriously injured or killed by chained dogs.)

In today’s world of reality TV, our idea will spark great interest locally and nationally, because real people will compete to win the real prize of a New Car! The idea is as follows: 15 people will sign on as contestants and compete to win the car by living chained to a doghouse for as long as possible, up to approximately 2 weeks. The player staying chained the longest will win.

This will garner both great advertising for your company as well as great attention for this issue for our group. It is a win/win proposition! Your logo will be on all event attire, which will be worn by all players as well as sold on t-shirts at the event. Your company will receive heavy promotional advertising, as well as garner you much national media attention. We will offer a fair like atmosphere, with bands, booths by area organizations, food, and activities for those coming to watch.

Below are our estimates, high and low, of how much advertising dollar equivalency and exposure the Winning Bidder stands to gain. While we realize that media coverage of an event is never guaranteed, we are certain this event will garner a very strong amount of media coverage based on events of the past two years.

We Hope We've Convinced You!

Dogs Deserve Better is a great cause, with great momentum and clarity of purpose! Due to our influence and materials, individuals nationwide have gotten dogs off chains, and laws have moved forward in many communities across the country. Laws restricting tethering of dogs are currently being considered in Maryland, California, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. County and city laws are in place in nearly 90 areas of the country. Consider placing your advertising or sponsorship dollars behind a cause that has meaning for both children and dogs! You won't regret it.

*Dogs Deserve Better reserves the right to refuse naming rights from any companies that are involved in illegal or immoral activities, such as but not limited to: pornography, drug use/sales, weapon use/sales, or the harming of animals. We welcome and accept all interest from individuals as well as corporations that support our communities, as well as the welfare of children, dogs, and families. Dogs Deserve Better will run the event in your local area or the Altoona, PA area, whichever the winning bidder prefers. Happy bidding; we hope to do business with you!

Pay with your credit card through paypal. We also accept money orders. We will not accept personal checks! Pennsylvania residents add 6% sales tax. For international orders we will accept paypal only. Payment must be received within 7 days.

Additional Information about the event:

1. We are taking contestant applications from any individuals who are in good health and able to withstand up to two weeks of boredom and sleeping in the elements. Contestants who have a dog chained at home, live near a chained dog, or have a rescued dog will be first considered, then others by random drawing. Please fill out the contestant application, and mail it to us at P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA by June 7, 2006.

2. Prospective contestants must mail a photo of themselves and their dog (if they have one, or the dog they want to play on behalf of if applicable). They must be willing, if the contest winner, to work with Dogs Deserve Better to bring the dog into the home and family if the dog is living chained outside.

3. The winner will receive the title to a new Chevy Aveo. All further liabilities and insurance become the winner's responsibility at the end of the contest.

4. The event will take place beginning July 1, 2006, and continue as long as two weeks. If, after one week, there are too many players left, reality-tv style elimination challenges will begin, until we are left with one player. That player will win the new car.

5. The event will be held in Mundy's Corner, PA.

6. Contestants will remain chained at ALL times. Each contestant will be given his/her own port-a-potty, which he/she may use while remaining chained. Anyone seen removing collar and chain for even a moment will be eliminated. Dogs Deserve Better will also reserve the right to remove contestants who seem to be in any kind of physical distress.

7. Players will be filmed by media as well as Dogs Deserve Better, and must consent to such filming to be considered as contestants.

8. Dogs Deserve Better will undertake getting all contestants to the site, as well as getting any contestants back home. Contestants will be responsible only for clothing to get to the event, and to get home. Dogs Deserve Better will provide transportation, suncreen, chain, doghouse, collar, umbrella, and blanket. Dogs Deserve Better will also provide water and food.

9. We are seeking bands to donate playing time at the event, as well as other food and craft vendors. Any interested bands, please contact us at 814.941.7447. Food and Craft vendors, please fill out the application and mail it to us.

10. Any other questions, please call us at 814.941.7447.
