God gave us Dogs

So innocent, and completely defenseless,

dogs depend on those whom they love.

To provide them food and a shelter,

and protection from the elements above.

God put dogs on earth for a reason,

and I’m sure it wasn’t His plan,

for them to be treated so cruelly,

and abused so often by man.

I believe God gave us dogs to enjoy,

to enhance our lives and make them better.

Not so those who are bullies,

have someone to abuse, to neglect and to tether.

Why would someone have a dog,

only to keep him tied to a tree?

And why won’t they listen to reason,

about how cruel that is – why can’t they see?

How would they like to live their life,

with a chain around their neck always?

Maybe they should see how it feels,

to live this way day after day.

To never be able to run,

and play as dogs so love to do.

To be a companion to someone they love,

to romp and to wag and to chew.

Each day I drive by at least 10 chained dogs,

and I’ve never been able to accept it.

I’ve tried to provide information for people,

however, most choose to reject it.

I often wonder to myself if people are really that mean,

or are they just naïve about it?

Do they really not know this treatment is cruel?

But then I think really I doubt it.

If people would just use some common sense,

and realize this treatment brings their dog pain.

They would surely stop this horrible practice,

and take them off of their chain.

So they could be part of the family,

a loved and cherished pet.

Forever grateful that the chain was broken,

Of that I’d be willing to bet!
