LEHIGH ACRES - A late night drive-by shooting in Lehigh Acres left three children scared and a dog in the hospital. We visited the family and found out how a young boy's quick actions saved his family from a homemade bomb.

The family did not want to give their names for fear of retaliation because they say someone battered the front of their home with bullets.

"It went straight through the wall into the bathroom where I was," the teen described.

The family was woken up by the buck shot. The teen then got out of bed checked the perimeter of the house and found a flaming Molotov cocktail in his driveway.

He says he kicked it and that it ignited in the driveway.

"We kicked it down so it wouldn't catch the house on fire," he said. "We kicked it went ‘pshhh' everywhere."

It was also a close call for Blue, the family dog. Chained up and unable to get away from the gunfire, he was shot in the tail.

Now Blue is at the vet and doing OK.

"It gets me pissed off because the dog didn't do anything. I guess they were trying to steal the dog," the teen said.

But the boy's mother was afraid of something much worse, so she stood over her two younger children hoping deputies would arrive before the crossfire turned deadly.

"They don't realize there are children in the house, but they're sitting there shooting. They could've killed a child. It happens all the time," she said.

The boys' mother now says she's moving her children out of town.
