"Have a Heart for Chained Dogs"
Campaign a Success in Atlanta!
This
February in Atlanta has been a cold one. All of us at Second
Chance Animal Rescue & Adoptions in Atlanta, GA, knew that
the chained dogs of Atlanta needed a voice. Were accustomed
to rescuing dogs from Death Row at the local Animal Control facilities,
but we all knew of a chained dog or two that needed help.
So,
on Valentines Day, I met our groups President, Jolynn Van
Camp at PetsMart, and we set off to deliver the bags full of
bones, rawhides, pig ears, a new collar, a bowl, and the information
pamphlets. They were great goodie bags, the dogs would enjoy it,
but there was no doubt in our minds, they would enjoy being inside
much more.
We
delivered the bags, and information from Dogs Deserve Better and
other sources to about 6 houses; as of today, 2 people have called,
asking for our help. For example:
I
just got a call today from a man with a Chow chained in his backyard.
He said he was going to take us up on our offer of help. His dog,
Puffy, is scheduled to be neutered, and we have supplied him
with a crate to housetrain him.
There
were also 2 Rottweilers chained in a backyard, a male and a female,
unaltered. After a long conversation, with us doing most of the
talking, the woman asked for our help.
It
was a great success in my point of view.
Hopefully
next year we will be able to reach more people, but just because
the week is over, it wont stop us from looking out for the
animals.
For
the animals,
