| Thanks
to Erika Dillingham, shown above, Hope is alive today. She
and an animal control officer begged the vet to save Hope's life when
she came into the clinic with a chain, a rope, and a shoestring so
deeply embedded in her neck her trachea was almost severed. By some
miracle, Hope survived the severe neck wound and fought hard to cling
to life.
But
it didn't stop there. Erika took Hope into her home and nursed
her back to health. Dogs Deserve Better donated $50 to help
her, and then Paula Rothman stepped up and donated $90 toward
getting Hope spayed and on her way to a new home.
However,
complications arose. When Hope was on the table to be spayed,
she bled so profusely that the vet had to close her immediately,
without doing the surgery. Erika called in tears, because the bill
was $350, and she still was not spayed! She had to have more
tests done to find out if she has a bleeding disorder or other complications,
costing $100s of dollars. The spay alone could have cost
up to $1000 if that was the case and blood had to be on hand
for her.
Erika
had done so much already! We put out a plea to the community
for help. And God love the animal lovers out there who rallied and
sent us all they could afford.
Update
of 5/7/03: We had collected $2057 for Hope's
bills
What
an incredible miracle! We had more than enough... We then decided
to create The Hope Fund to cover other chained dog surgeries.
Thanks so much to all who donated whatever amount you could! An
extra special thanks goes out to Dinah Young for her donation
of $500.00, and Kathleen Durkin for her donation of
$200.00. You amazed us! Many others gave $100, $50, $30,
$20, and $10. People gave the most that they could afford, and we
appreciate it so much!
Update
of 6/3/03: We had collected $2072 for the
Hope Fund
Hope
was successfully spayed without difficulties Friday, May 30, 2003.
We will never know why she bled so profusely the first time. She
received blood testing beforehand, and everything looked good, so
it was attempted and successful! Her total vet bills and boarding
costs came to $484.00, which we have paid in full thanks
to the many generous donations from caring souls.
Hope
is still looking for a home. She is Alpha female, and needs to be
either an only dog or with a very submissive dog. We will help transport
anywhere, and Erika has some flight offerings too. Please contact
Erika at tookerdoo2002@yahoo.com if you'd like to foster or adopt
her.
The
money we collected has also helped many other dogs get vetted, spayed,
or neutered.
We
gladly accept further donations for The Hope Fund. Any money donated
will be used exclusively for chained dog surgeries/vet bills. You
will know you are saving a life, and what a great feeling!
