DDB
received the following e-mail appeal for help for Johanna (Boo)
from Beth Farmer of the Humane Society of Warren County, Tennessee:
"This
is Boo. Boo was hurt by some children back in October of 04, injuring
her spine. She is paralyzed, incontinent, and the sweetest, happiest
little girl you could ever want to meet. She has one broken toe
with the bone protruding. She feels no pain thankfully. She was
tied in the back yard because of the incontinence...She has rubbed
her hind feet raw pulling them.
She weighs 11 pounds.
Her "owner" has agreed to sign her over so that we can
find her a special needs rescue if possible.
This is a special little dog...and she needs a break in the worst
way.
Can someone please help her?"
Thanks,
Beth
Dogs
Deserve Better Maine Rep Lauren Smith could not stop thinking about
Boo, and decided to take on the challenge of flying her to Maine,
equipping her with a doggie cart, and giving her some time to know
love. We then got a call from Judy at Animal Radio, who told us
of school students in Oklahoma who had worked to raise money to
help a special needs dog. She felt they would donate the money for
the cart for Boo! Boo's hopes seemed more and more possible!
Lauren
writes: "I received your post last week and thought about this
dog non-stop. I decided to call the humane society and talked to
Beth Farmer. She felt I would be good for her and we discussed how
I should fly her instead of auto transport as it would be less stressful
and quicker.
Beth
said the caretakers refused her offers of help in getting her indoors,
they didnt want to deal with an incontinent dog. They finally agreed
to give her to Beth and wanted her PTS. Beth said she would try
to find a rescue and the woman seemed happy at that. She said when
she met the dog she rolled on her back for love and was happy and
loveableshe just couldn't put her down.
Turns
out someone emailed Handicapped
Pets about the story and he in turn called Judy at
Animal
Radio. Schoolchildren in Oklahoma have been fundraising
for a needy animal and Johanna will be the recipient, with enough
to buy her cart! Very ironic since it was kids that injured her
by smashing her back in because she would bark at them."

Johanna
then flew to Maine the week of May 23rd, and made it safely to Lauren.
