Macon City Council:
In preparation for Tuesday's meeting, please take a few minutes to review the news articles below regarding the Athens-Clarke County Commission's deliberation and decision to outlaw long-term tethering of dogs.

The 3rd article includes an interview with a family in Athens whose four dogs were living chained prior to the ordinance passing. The attached photographs were taken by me today at the home of the family in the article.

All four of their dogs are now living inside fences. The family built not one fence, but two (one in front, one in back) and were proud to show them to me today.
I am sharing with you this story to demonstrate one alternative to chaining dogs for life. Dogs living chained are not safe, nor, if they become aggressive, are the children and adults who might unwittingly walk into an aggressive dog's small, closely-guarded territory.
The family in the story was not only able to afford fencing on a fixed income, they were willing to make the effort for their dogs. In many cases of chained dogs, willingness of the owner is a greater factor than financial ability. It costs nothing to bring a dog indoors.
Thank you for reading. Please ban tethering in Macon.
