Dogs Deserve Better
Sponsor Me for Your Holiday Gifts!

Do you want your holiday gift giving to be about something more important this year? Sponsor a formerly Chained Dog or Penned Dog, and we will send you or your loved one a personalized gift letter with a picture of their sponsored foster dog and his/her story.

Imagine going from a chained or penned life, with little food, water, or comforts, to not only having all the warmth and love you need but also a great bed and toys too! Whether given as a gift to a loved one or as a treat for yourself, it’s a true treasure that will shine throughout the New Year.

Beau, OR

Except for a couple of months, Beau, a pitbull mix, lived his life at the end of a chain. Lucky for him, his owner finally did the right thing and surrendered him to Dogs Deserve Better. Beau has come a long way in a short amount of time. One of his favorite things to do is to lay on his dog bed and play with a chew toy, both of which he has never had. If you have any questions about this very special rescue or would like to meet Beau, please email Ruth at rjainor@msn.com or call 503-881-6055.

The Scaredy Sisters, PA

The Scaredy Sisters, Honey and Sugar, came from a chained life in West Virginia. They were TOTALLY unsocialized, have made much progress, but are still called The Scaredy Sisters with good reason! Now in the morning Miss Sugar and Miss Honey will wag their tails to see me and come up for a little bit of love, but the rest of the day is still "run for your life!" They would LOVE a home together as they are so bonded and someone who can really spend time working with them, plus indestructible beds (they like to shred); and perhaps a bigger crate, as they like to den together in there when they are afraid or sleepy. E-mail me at tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org if you'd like to give them a home.

Lizzie, Richmond, VA

Lizzie was found wandering in the church hill area of Richmond. She is a 6 month old boxer mix, a young girl. We believe she was tied out and then attacked before somehow getting loose to wander. She is very intelligent, knows sit and down already!  If you can offer her a good home, please contact Jodi at Jodi.DeLazier@capitalone.com

Lizzie has lots of medical bills she'd like help with, as well as some treats and toys.

Bear, PA

Bear has been this year's poster dog for DDB, as he's a prime example of how education can and does work. His caretakers got a letter from us over six months ago, and it took that long to decide he deserved better. He hopefully has a story coming out in the New York Times about his rescue soon, fingers crossed! He was supposed to have a home in Canada, but that fell through, and so he's still looking. He LOVES toys, carrying them around and putting them in water bowls. He would love a trip to the groomer and a nice bed too. To inquire about adoptin him, please e-mail tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org.

Teddy, PA

This is Teddy's second year in our Sponsor Program. The poor guy was in a home and came back for nipping, due to an injured shoulder. He's an old guy who could just use a very tolerant home! He's also getting quite bad cataracts at this point. He really could use an elevated bowl set. He's very tall and older and eating seems a chore at time for him to reach his bowls comfortably. He loves to be petted, but hates being brushed, and needs one of those mitts that go over your hand and it brushes the hair. He's not fearful of our hands, but get the brush and he's not a happy boy. If you could give Teddy love for his remaining years, please e-mail Melanie at msent2@verizon.net.

Baron is a male 1 yr old shepherd mix who was chained in a back yard in Hamilton Ohio with 4 other dogs. If you can foster or adopt Bear, please call Lois at 937 684 7421. Bear destroys most toys except for Kongs and NylaBones, but could use those, a bed, and some heartworm meds for the coming year.

She is not very hyper, but she does have a lot of energy. She would love heartworm medication, toys, treats, and a new bed. If you're interested in adoption her, please e-mail Robyn at LuvFurryFriends9@aol.com.

Spotty, PA

Spotty lived chained in South Carolina. He ended up in the shelter, and he didn't do well there. He was almost euthanized, but was pulled out by a woman who kept asking us to take him, and finally had someone drive him up to us. Spot is a ladies man, actually a one-woman man, and he's looking for his leading lady! He would love a new bed so he can sleep beside his current paramour, as well as plenty of treats, he can catch with the best of them! If interested in adopting him, please e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org.

Ming Ding, PA

Ming is back with us for the third time, but we love her and we don't mind! She has thyroid problems and skin problems which will require a lifetime of care, and she had two families not willing to put that time and attention into her. Too bad for them, because she's well worth it! She is a very typical Akita, and steals your heart with her antics and personality. She is rarely seen without a toy in her mouth, a soft toy these days due to so many skin problems. She would love a family who could give her what she needs, as well as thyroid medications, plenty of toys, and a soft bed to lay on. If interested in adopting Ming, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org.

Mattie, GA

Mattie is a formerly penned dog who was rescued Oct. 5 of this year. Her living conditions were pathetic...no water or food, and she was standing and sleeping in her own feces. Today, she is safely in the hands of Pup & Cat Co., and is being fostered by one of our foster homes in Jefferson, Ga. Mattie is a very active and loving 10-month-old. Understandably, she is quite timid and is very afraid of crates (on adoption days), but with the new love and help of her foster home she is coming along. Christmas toys and a new bed would be a great treat for her!

If interested in adopting Mattie, please contact Roxane at roxane@roxaneinc.com.

King, PA

King lived a chained life in West Virginia before coming to Dogs Deserve Better. He just loves kids and his favored adults too, but he's not so crazy about most other dogs. He does play with Heidi, the rottie here, but she's the only one! King would love a new bed and some toys to call his own. He's tired of the other dogs taking all his toys and chewies! If interested in adopting King, please e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org.

Lady, Maine

Lady is a very sweet Dalamation mix estimated to be between 5- 7 years old. This pretty girl greets her loved one with a big smile and wag of tail. Dogs Deserve Better rescued Lady from a kennel in upstate Maine where she was living outside in a pen 24/7. The kennel owner released Lady to Dogs Deserve Better because she wanted her to have a better life with a warm home and a family to love. Despite her rough beginning - Lady is an absolute love bug! She also has a playful side - Lady really enjoys playing with toys - Squeeky toys and balls are her favorites. She is so happy to have toys of her own, that she takes them all out of her toy basket and places them around her bed, just so that she can keep an eye on them at all times! She really enjoys treats and rawhides as well. If interested in adopting Lady, please e-mail Susanna at slricher66@yahoo.com.

Reba, Ohio

Reba is a 2 year old female spayed Red Chow Chow.  She and her brother, Leo, were purchased from a breeder by their former owner and then after he had them about a month, he realized they shed too much and were too much energy for his small townhouse.  He chained them to his patio and forgot about them for the next year.  Reba is currently being fostered by me & my husband and is now in Doggie Daycare twice per week to learn proper socialization with other dogs and my husband now spends 90% of his time with her and walks her 2 miles per day.  She is still looking for a great home!   She would like more visits to Doggie Daycare, something we cannot afford, and she would like nylabones, groom apointments and a doggie bed.  Thank you!!! If interested in adopting her, please contact ChristyLDotson@yahoo.com or call 614-309-9406.

Luna, GA

Luna is a 1 yr old Treeing Walker Coonhound that was found on the street, running in front of cars. Luna was very scared and appears to have been chained up and beaten. It took Luna a day to warm up to her foster mom and foster doggie siblings. Now she loves her foster mom and her whole body wags every time she sees her. She'll jump and give hugs and run around playfully. Luna also LOVES to wrestle and play with her doggie foster siblings. Luna enjoys cuddling on the couch, too. It's a nice change from being tied out in someone's yard! Due to Luna's past, she needs a home that will be understanding and gentle with her. She is timid with new people, but warms up very quickly. She is now a typical bouncy Coonhound in need of love, exercise, and training. Luna has had a bad life until now and deserves a new home that will make up for all she's been through, as well as treats and toys and a new bed too. To adopt Luna, please contact Chrissy at Animal Action Rescue 404-373-5692 or GTigger719@aol.com

Penny, OH

Penny is a  1 year old female spayed Pit Bull mix.  She was rescued after the drug dealer that chained her out 24/7 was hauled off to jail in a drug bust.  She was only approx. 8 months old when rescued so she has spent the past 4 months learning how to play and interact with other dogs and is now in obedience classes to learn basic commands and good leash behavior.  Penny would like a dog bed, food and some doggie daycare classes so that she can play with other dogs and learn good socialization.  If interested in adopting her, please contact SWideman@lpagn.com or call 614-361-8098.

Quami, GA

Quami is a sweet 8 yr old purebred Keeshond. He was turned in by his owner, covered in mats to be euthanized. Quami was in a foster home and a very happy boy.  One of the dogs in Quami's foster home didn't like him, so now he's back in boarding.  Quami is slow to warm up since he lived so many years on a short chain with no human interaction.  Once he warms up to you he loves to snuggle (which he's perfect for with his soft, fluffy coat). Quami does need some work on his housebreaking since he was chained up his whole life. Quami just wants a family to love and spoil him for the rest of his life! If interested in adopting Quami, e-mail Chrissy at gtigger719@aol.com.

Frankie, ME

Frankie was found barely alive, a mere bag o' bones, with his female companion chained to the cold dirty floor of a converted gas station. His ladyfriend was fed so she could produce puppies, presumably for sale. They didn't feed poor Frankie. He was on his last leg when a good samaritan called for help. Frankie would love any gifts he receives for Christmas, he wants this year to be much better than previous years! If you're interested in adoption Frankie, please e-mail Susanna at slricher66@yahoo.com.

Bob, Maine

Bob is the sweetest dog in the world! When we picked Bob up, it was pouring rain - He was pacing back and forth in the mud under his run. His dog house was very wet - so he did not bother to go inside. Two baths later and we are still not sure all of the mud is gone from Bob's coat.... Bob gets along very well with other dogs. he enjoys playing with the younger dogs in the home - and can definitely keep up with them! ! To inquire about adopting Bob into your home, e-mail Susanna at slricher66@yahoo.com.
