Tamar
Sherman - California Representative for DDB
Tamar
Sherman, daughter of Catherine Gidos Sherman and Yehuda
Sherman of Lafayette, California, born April 27, 1971, lost her
3 year battle with breast cancer on May 9, 2007 at the young age
of 36.
Tamar
was a tireless advocate for abused and neglected animals, and
a sales administration specialist for a medical supply company.
When
DDB founder, Tammy Grimes, posted this statement, "It's with
a sad heart that I tell you all that California Area Rep Tamar
Sherman passed away May 9th, losing her fight with breast cancer,
" a silence fell as we all knew there would forever be a
hole left in animal rescue that could only be filled by Tamar.
Tamar
was an instrumental piece in the passing of the 3 hour California
tethering limit. She was named "Remarkable Rep of
the Year, 2006" in voting by her fellow Dogs Deserve
Better Area Reps. At 32 yrs old, her arrest for "petting
a dog and giving it water" shocked dog lovers across the
nation when it was released by the Associated Press, and her story
was blogged all over the internet.
She
represented Dogs Deserve Better in the California Animal Alliance.
Her efforts to save chained dogs made the news in San Jose and
other parts of California.
Tamar
worked to free chained dogs until the very end. In remembrance
of Tamar Sherman, Dogs Deserve Better will rename our Remarkable
Rep Award to the Tamar Sherman Remarkable Rep Award,
and will work even harder to continue her legacy.
"She
was so touched to be nominated as area rep of the year that she
cried; she also cried when she wrote her letter of resignation,
and the work of this group--DDB--meant so very much to her."—Catherine
Sherman, Tamar's mom
