A small sampling of the thousands of heart-touching valentines
created by schoolchildren/groups in 2008 for the chained and penned dogs. (Please note, we are requesting Valentines be no larger than 4"x8.5" in order to fit in mailing envelopes...we LOVE these Valentines, but they are hard to mail!)

Valentines Poem
by Samantha Griggs

I am chained up outside both day and night
Faced with harsh elements, I shiver in fright

With little mobility, I pace to and fro
I am tied to a chain, I have nowhere to go

Boredom takes over and I bark at the air
Nobody to listen, nobody to care

You’ve resigned me to a life, a life so sad
Exposed to rain, cold, heat, and loneliness, it gets really bad

I am trapped in a prison, although it has no walls
My heart longs to be free, so please hear my calls!

Won’t you bring me inside, to live in your home?
Give me a warm comfy bed, and maybe a bone?

Oh please here me calling, please answer my prayers
I don’t want to be outside, I want to be in there!

I am bored, I am lonely, I pray for help from above
Misery is all I know, I am desperate to be loved!

I never get pets, or the chance to chase a ball
Do you ever think of me? Do you even see me at all?

I think and I ponder, and try to figure out
Why you would get a dog and then lock them out?

What I wouldn’t give for a daily walk
Just to be by your side, to hear you talk

I long to be petted, to lie on a comfy bed
But night after night, the cold, hard ground is where I lay my tired head

Food and water are essentials that I need to survive
But without your love and companionship, my heart slowly dies

My heart breaks a little more, each and every day
As I sit all alone, watching you and your family play

You go on with your life, and forget that I am there
How I wish you would help me and show me you care

Tied to this chain, I patiently wait
For a hero to rescue me from this terrible fate

Will you be my hero, once and for all?
Either bring me inside, or make a quick call?

If you do not want me, there are people that will assist
Just dial their number, this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Dogs Deserve Better will help find a way
To find me a home where inside I will stay

I would much rather be, living with you inside your home
But if you won’t bring me in, please reach for that phone!

So on this Valentines Day, I beg you to have a heart
Release me from this chain, so my life can start!
